End-of-Day Market Summary – May 27, 2025
The market remains fundamentally anchored despite continued Chinese domestic price erosion. Seaborne FOB levels are holding firm, with Goonyella sellers unmoved, and broader coal market stabilization (thermal side) providing indirect support for sentiment.
Anze Drops to ¥1,200, Within Expectations: Chinese domestic PHCC (Anze) prices fell another ¥30 to ¥1,200, a move largely anticipated by the market as part of the ongoing second round of coke price cuts.
Goonyella Sellers Remain Firm: Goonyella suppliers continue to hold firm, maintaining target FOB levels and showing no signs of adjusting offers downward, even as Chinese sentiment weakens. The tightness in branded PMV availability continues to support pricing resilience.
Thermal Coal Stabilizing Domestically and Internationally: China’s domestic thermal coal prices show early signs of stabilizing, while international thermal coal markets are also firming, partly due to rain disruptions in Australia, which are raising logistics concerns and supporting regional energy coal pricing.
