Let's Join - The Junkie Met Coal Sentiment Index: PHCC Sentiment Indicator

Welcome to the Junkie Met Coal Sentiment Index — the market's first sentiment index built specifically for the premium hard coking coal (PHCC) market.

This is a passion project born out of a simple idea: what if we could quantify how the market feels before the trades even print?

We know the PHCC market is tight, opaque, and dominated by a few players — so we built this index to capture real, ground-level sentiment from those who live and breathe this space: miners, steel mills, traders, funds, and analysts.

Inspired by the classic PMI framework, the index turns weekly qualitative insights into a clean score between 0 and 100. Each participant answers just 4 quick questions tailored to their role — covering things like cargo availability, buyer/seller behavior, and price expectations. The fifth optional question provides a qualitative flavour.

Scoring is simple:

• ✅ Bullish / Improved = 1.0

• ➖ Neutral / No change = 0.5

• ❌ Bearish / Deteriorated = 0.0

Then we weigh responses based on market influence to reflect reality, not just volume of replies:

• Miners – 25%

• Steel Mills – 25%

• Traders – 25%

• Financial Funds – 15%

• Analysts & Reporters – 10%

🔍 How to Read the Index:

• >70 → Bullish (tightness, demand > supply)

• 50–70 → Neutral to slightly bullish

• <50 → Bearish (oversupply, weaker sentiment)

We update the index every week, and our mission is simple:

• ✅ Anonymous for honest input

• ✅ Accurate to reflect real market tone

• ✅ Predictive of what may come next
