JSW Steel Ltd.'s $74 million acquisition of the Minas de Revuboe (MdR) coal deposit in Mozambique is progressing after the concession rights were reinstated to the seller. The deal had stalled when the previous Mozambican administration revoked MdR's mining lease, prompting legal action. Under President Daniel Chapo, the government reversed this decision in April 2025, restoring the license to MdR, owned by the estate of the late Australian mining magnate Ken Talbot. JSW, led by Sajjan Jindal, aims to secure up to 280 million tons of premium coking coal through this acquisition, bolstering its global mining assets to support steel production.
