Fire Injures Four at Russian Coal Plant

Four people were injured after a methane fire broke out at Mechel’s coal processing plant in Neryungri, located in Russia’s far northeastern Sakha Republic. The blaze began in a finished goods warehouse, prompting the evacuation of workers. Authorities confirmed the fire damaged warehouses, buildings, and a conveyor belt before being extinguished. Over 50 firefighters and 12 units of equipment responded to the incident. The Neryungri plant, operated by Yakutugol under Mechel, has an annual capacity of nine million tons. Officials cited the building’s design and flammable materials as key challenges in controlling the fire.
